IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    • Unit 7: Preparation for specialist study in music performance & production

  • Hand In Details:

      • Project hand-in date: *23/01/26*at 16.00

      • Upload evidence to the relevant "Project " page of your “WIX" website   

      • Use “Teams- assignment'' to hand-in a link to your website. This must be done by the hand-in date. 

      • Remember collation of all evidence is your responsibility, this includes audial and visual recordings.

      • Primary and secondary sources must be referred to in a Webliography and/or Bibliography.

      • If applicable, all in-text citations must be referenced.

      • Webliography and/or Bibliography. must be in Harvard format 

      • For each project you will be asked by your tutor to sign an authentication form that confirms that the work you have submitted for assessment is your own and that you have not copied it from someone else or allowed another candidate to copy from you.

      • A late hand-in will automatically be referred.

      • Students who hands in late or provides insufficient evidence to meet all of the assessment criteria will be referred.

      • All referred work re-submitted will be capped at satisfactory. 

      • Students re-submitted work that does not meet the assessment criteria then they will receive a Fail grade.

Task 1

This task addresses:

Learning outcomes: Unit 5: L01 & Unit 6: L01

Assessment criteria: Unit 5: 1.1, 1.2 Unit 6: 1.1, 1.2

Music Technology Students Only:

​

 

Design and conduct research to develop a recording plan for the recording and mixing of a band/artist within the recording studio.

 

The plan should include the following:

 

Who is the band/artist?

What style/genre is the band/artist?

Who are the band/artist members and which instrument(s) do they play?

What equipment will you need? List recording studio equipment and band/artist equipment.

What role will you play during the studio recording, studio engineer or studio producer or both?

What does a studio engineer do?

What does a studio producer do?

When will the recording take place, days, times, location?

A detailed plan of what will be recorded, in what order?

Explain which microphone that will be used on instruments and any alternatives?

Explain microphone techniques such as close mic’ing on drums, amps

Explain any stereo mic’ing techniques such as spaced pair or XY

When will you mix? What signal processors/effects/plug-ins will you use to mix?

You will then partake in recording/mixing workshops whereby you will practice and develop your studio recording/mixing skills. You must show your progress by completing rehearsal sheets on a regular basis.

Music Performance Students Only:

​

Performance Plan:

 

Design and research a performance plan for a live show at Cafe Indie on 10/12/25, starting at 12.00 finishing at 15.00

 

The performance plan must include the following:

 

· A rehearsal schedule, days, times, location and planned activities

· Song choices, these could be original or cover versions. Please note that the duration of the set list must be at least 20 minutes long but must not    exceed 25 minutes. Within this timeframe you can play as many songs as you require.

· Instrumentation: band members names and who is playing which instrument on songs

· Equipment needed for rehearsals

· A final set list of final song choices for the Café Indie performance, with song timings in minutes/sec and overall time on stage in minutes/sec

· A stage layout for Café Indie and positions of band members on stage

· Equipment needed for the performance at Café Indie

 

You will then partake in rehearsal workshops whereby you will practice and develop your performance skills. You must show your progress by completing rehearsal sheets on a regular basis (at least 6) and video evidence of your rehearsals/progress (at least 6).

  • A performance plan.

  • At least 6 rehearsal videos.

  • At least 6 rehearsal diary sheets

Task 2

​

This task addresses:

​

Learning outcomes: Unit 5: L02 & Unit 6: L02

Assessment criteria: Unit 5: 2.1, 2.2 Unit 6: 2.1, 2.2

​

Music Technology Students Only:

​

Record and mix a band/artist in the recording studio with a role as a studio engineer or studio producer or both according to the above plan.

Please upload the final mix to SoundCloud and include a link on your Wix website.

​

All students must hand in the following evidence for this task:

 

Bounce of Logic session and Soundcloud link. Also share the Logic session to Simon Atkinson and Mario Gazi on OneDrive.

 

Music Performance Students Only:

​

Perform on stage at Cafe Indie as a live performance according to the above plan. This performance will take place on 10/12/25, starting at 12.00 finishing at 15.00

 

All students must hand in the following evidence for this task:

​

Video of performance (this will be filmed for you and given to you to upload to Wix).

Music Recording

Task 3

​

This task addresses:

​

Learning outcomes: Unit 5: LO3 & Unit 6: L03

Evaluate your recording and mixing skills as well as the overall recording and mixing process and product, identifying any changes and/or improvements you feel you could or should have made.

This task addresses:

Learning outcomes: Unit 7: LO1

Assessment criteria: Unit 7: 1.1

 

Project aim: To critically analyse, integrate and apply knowledge and understanding from units 1-6 to explore areas of interest for further study.

 

Music Technology Students Only:

 

Review and document the skills and knowledge you have gained thus far on the course to highlight your strengths. Also review and document areas for improvement within your skills and knowledge. Research ideas/options and pathways for future study such as University or other establishments, explaining in depth the courses that could be of interest to you.

Explore and research a variety of different ideas (at least 3) for your upcoming collaborative project (FMP final project), listing and demonstrating the practical and theoretical understanding of skills needed for successful completion of your collaborative project (please also film these skills).

Decide on one final area of practice for your collaborative project from your choices of at least three. Present 3 ideas for your FMP, including your final choice, to the class as part of a presentation.
