Critical Listening & Composing Music

Important information
This project consists of 3 tasks that focus on the following units:

Project aim: To understand and apply a variety of techniques for composing and arranging, which will lead to the production of a composition portfolio

Upload evidence to the relevant "Project " page of your “WIX" website

Use “Teams- assignment'' to hand-in a link to your website. This must be done by the hand-in date.

Remember collation of all evidence is your responsibility, this includes audial and visual recordings.

Primary and secondary sources must be referred to in a Harvard referencing style in a bibliography/webliography, place this at the end of task 3 which relates to all tasks.

For each project you will be asked by your tutor to sign an authentication form that confirms that the work you have submitted for assessment is your own and that you have not copied it from someone else or allowed another candidate to copy from you.

A late hand-in will automatically be referred.

Students who hands in late or provides insufficient evidence to meet all of the assessment criteria will be referred.

All referred work re-submitted will be capped at satisfactory.

Students re-submitted work that does not meet the assessment criteria will receive a Fail grade.

Task 1
This task addresses:
Learning outcomes: Unit 2: L01 & L02, Unit 4: L01 & L02
Assessment criteria: Unit 2: 1.1, 2.1, Unit 4: 1.1, 2.1, 2.2
​Music Production Students:
Analyse at least 3 different compositions from a range of genres / styles and discuss the compositional and production techniques used. You will also comment on the context and the audience for each composition.
Hand in the following evidence for this task: on your Wix website:

​Music Performance Students:

Task 2
This task addresses:
Learning outcomes: Unit 2: L01, L02 & Unit 4: L01
Assessment criteria: Unit 2: 1.2, 2.2 & Unit 4: 1.2, 1.3
Music Production Students:

Create at least 2 compositions for 2 different scenarios, audiences or functions. This must be on Logic Pro and could include live instruments.

â—¦ At least 10 screenshots (5 from each composition), showing your journey from start to completion of this task.

Please make sure you give your Logic sessions to your tutor who will store these on a hard drive and to upload all Logic songs (in one folder, with 2 separate folders within, for each song) to OneDrive and share with both Mario and Simon.
Music Performance Students:

Within your performance group you must create at least 2 compositions for 2 different scenarios, audiences or functions. Each composition must be at least 3 minutes long. This task must be done as part of a group and not individually.

Hand in the following evidence for this task on your Wix website:

Video evidence of at least 8 separate songwriting sessions. Each video must be accompanied by a brief written description that explains what is being carried out. The videos must be at least 2 minutes long.

Video evidence of your group performing the compositions. This performance will be on 17/11/25
